Emission calculation trainings for the City of Joensuu support the local climate work
Etteplan facilitated emissions calculation trainings for the City of Joensuu and regional companies in 2023 and 2024. This initiative aligned with Joensuu’s commitment to support local businesses in their climate objectives. Reducing emissions is crucial for the city’s goal of carbon neutrality. By supporting companies’ climate initiatives, Joensuu also aims to enhance the competitiveness of local businesses and the vitality of the city.
Etteplan’s training program
To support the climate action of Joensuu and local companies, Etteplan implemented a comprehensive training program that included a training session, a workshop on developing a climate roadmap, and mentoring sessions.
The training sessions covered the basic principles of organizational carbon footprint calculation, and the use of a carbon footprint calculator developed for the City of Joensuu. Additionally, particular attention was given to engaging participants and conducting practical exercises.
In the climate roadmap workshop organized after the training session, companies worked in small groups to brainstorm concrete measures for reducing emissions. This workshop addressed both the companies' own emissions and those within their value chains. The goal was to identify the companies' baseline situations and targets, determine the primary factors contributing to their carbon footprints, and discuss emission reduction measures.
The mentoring sessions provided companies with the opportunity to review their calculations and challenges together with Etteplan’s expert. Participants also received guidance on communication regarding their climate work.
