Etteplan renews the FINAS accreditation for its EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and RF (Radio Frequency) Laboratory in Jyväskylä, Finland. The accreditation initially granted in 2016 requires annual audits. EMC and RF testing is used to determine the electromagnetic compatibility and radio frequency performance of products. This year, five new standards and two updates to existing ones such as standards for household appliances and railway applications were added to the laboratory’s accreditation scope.
In practice, the accreditation means that Etteplan can offer its customers accredited EMC and RF testing in compliance with a wider selection of standards. Moreover, there are only a handful of accredited commercial EMC and RF test laboratories in Finland.
The audit requires dedication from Etteplan’s experts, and the results are showing. Having an authority-approved testing laboratory speeds up customers' product development, as the development work and standard-based measurements can be easily implemented by one service provider.
Customer needs were the driver for acquiring the new set of standards into Etteplan Laboratory’s accreditation scope. “We have listened to our customers and now we can continue to serve them even better in the future, “ explains Tero Leppänen, VP of Testing and Product Verification at Etteplan, “The audit itself and competence development prior that went well, thanks to our professional laboratory personnel.” The competence development has included acquisition of new measurement equipment, adopting new methods, developing testing environment and training of personnel.
New standards and updates to existing ones
Altogether, seven new standards were added to the laboratory’s accreditation scope. Five of them are completely new standards and two are updates to existing ones.
The five new extensions include electromagnetic compatibility standards for household appliances, electric tools and similar apparatus as well as railway applications. Moreover, two of the standards are geared towards low-voltage switch gear and control gear assemblies.
In addition, two updates on the existing standards remove the current frequency limitation for SRD devices working in the frequency range of 1 GHz to 40 GHz and provide an updated standard for PMR and TETRA devices.
