NF Sharing, implemented by Etteplan, brings car sharing to Tripla’s residents in Helsinki

Etteplan has created the NF Sharing service designed for car sharing. Nordea and NF Fleet are piloting the new mobility service together with YIT. The residents of the apartment houses located in connection with the Mall of Tripla will be the first to try out the new service. Users reserve a suitable car using an app, and no car keys are required. Smart IoT technology is used to predict maintenance needs and to calculate the kilometers driven with the car.

Instead of owning a car, it is becoming increasingly common in cities to acquire a vehicle only when needed. The NF Sharing service is a response to the growing trend of offering driving as a service. It is now available to the residents of new YIT-homes located at the Mall of Tripla in Helsinki, Finland. 

NF Fleet, a joint venture of Nordea Rahoitus and ALD Automotive, is delivering an electric car to the housing company’s garage, and the building’s residents can rent the car using a mobile app. The housing company manages the service and the user rights via the web user interface. Keys are not needed, which makes using the vehicle and changing users easy. Etteplan has designed and implemented a software solution for managing and reserving vehicles. The digital self-service app makes for speedy use and management. The solution is also used to make payments, predict the need for maintenance and open the vehicle’s doors. 

“There are numerous potential users, ” says Etteplan’s Business Architect Mikko Viskari. “More and more city dwellers are interested in car sharing, as the costs of owning a car are high. With this exceptional spring that we have experienced, many people are thinking how nice it would be to have a car and drive to a recreational area to go hiking in the forest.” 

When there is a car parked in the housing company’s own garage and there is no need to pick up car keys from anywhere, it makes using the car quick and easy. In these times, ensuring proper hygiene is naturally important.

“We have been using the car three times and are really happy with the service. We sold our own car before our move, so this is a great value-added service for our living comfort, ” says a resident about the service.

Easy-to-use service for companies too

The NF Sharing service created by Etteplan for NF Fleet is also the answer to the changing needs of corporate driving, as companies seek efficiency for their company cars. Work teams can use a shared car for business and coordinate its use via the mobile app. 

It is easy to use: users reserve the vehicle they need using the app. The car can be easily reserved and returned to a place indicated on the map, and keys are not required, as the doors are opened via the app and the car is started by pressing the Start button. The driver only has to take care of tanking up or charging the car, as the smart IoT technology predicts the need for maintenance.

“Companies can take advantage of the solution’s clear cost savings and a real-time utilization report. Since costs are distributed electronically in an automated process, this also frees up time that would otherwise be spent in laborious accounting. Environmental perspectives pose challenges for many industries, but these can also be tackled with new technology and smart design, ” Viskari points out. 

Etteplan’s design team created the user interface with many types of users and usage requirements in mind. With the Plus service, employees can also reserve cars for private use, for instance, for a weekend trip. 

The NF Sharing app is available in app stores.
