Having collaborated since 2014, Etteplan and Fortum Hydro have signed a new extended agreement in the area of asset documentation. The objective of the new agreement is to maintain the competence that Etteplan has built up at Fortum Hydro through its projects and to continue improving efficiency and quality within asset documentation.

“We are delighted that Fortum Hydro has continued confidence in us and that we have the opportunity to develop our cooperation further together, ” says Sixten Folke, Business Unit Director, Technical Documentation Solutions, Sweden, Etteplan.

In the energy sector, good management and documentation of real estate and plant information plays a key role.

“It is of the utmost importance for Fortum Hydro’s business that all information on the company’s 120 hydropower plants is up-to-date, easy to find and corresponds to physical power plants. For the purpose of automating information management and proactive maintenance, we have already started working together on areas such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, says Sixten Folke.

By working closely as partners, the goal is to provide and ensure the availability, reliability and accuracy of Fortum Hydro’s asset documentation. The partnership entails that both parties take equal responsibility to contribute to each other’s success and to deliver the greatest possible value to Fortum Hydro through development of the entire documentation function.

The agreement involves Etteplan delivering Fortum Hydro with services in the areas of asset documentation, project documentation and real estate documentation.

Etteplan’s and Fortum Hydro’s collaboration also involves a larger development project with the key focus on digitalization, centralization and development of structures and ways of working. Etteplan has, for example:

  • Assisted Fortum with mapping out and consolidating the physical information pool.
  • Contributed to quality assurance of content and increased degree of digitalization.
  • Increased the efficiency of documentation management with shorter processing times for searching and registering data.
  • Demonstrated how to increase the degree of maturity and availability of information by using new technologies such as AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning). By utilizing cognitive technology on existing data in various information sources it is possible to create necessary structures and relationships automatically in real time. This enables acceleration of the process from unstructured to structured information that is available, reliable and accurate.
