Etteplan awarded for innovation

Etteplan Oyj’s investment in innovation has been recognized by the Dutch Association for Service Management (NVSM). The association’s first ever Innovation Award was given to Etteplan’s Dutch subsidiary Etteplan | Tedopres for its HyperSIS Service Information System.
“The NVSM award clearly shows that we have managed to foster a culture of innovation throughout our whole organization ‒ developing service solutions that go beyond traditional engineering design services, ” says Etteplan’s President and CEO Juha Näkki.
HyperSIS was awarded particularly for its innovative use of existing technologies.
“The strength of HyperSIS is that it combines technologies like QR code scanning, augmented reality and visual search using 3D illustrations to allow service engineers to find the information they need to do maintenance tasks as efficiently as possible, “ says Roeland Staal, chairman of NVSM.
The importance of service business for equipment and machinery manufacturers is growing constantly. Improved efficiency in machine service can bring considerable savings in both time and money for any company committed to developing its service business.
“Studies have shown that with a traditional manual, even downloaded into a laptop, the service engineer uses 25‒50% of his time during one assignment to find the right information. In a company with hundreds or thousands of service engineers, cutting this time is essential, ” says Berry Braster, Etteplan | Tedopres’s sales and marketing director.
The unique HyperSIS product is a tablet application, which gives service engineers quick and easy access to up-to-date maintenance information. Ease of use is facilitated by information structured in data modules and maintained in a content management system.
“For example, a service engineer can scan the QR code from a machine and get all the relevant information about that particular, tailored machine. With the help of HyperSIS, he can troubleshoot the system and even order a new part, if necessary.”
HyperSIS has been released earlier this year, with the first implementations under way in Finland and the Netherlands. The customers involved in the pilot projects are mostly engineering works.
Etteplan acquired the Dutch Tedopres in 2012 to strengthen its technical product information services offering.
