Etteplan becomes European pioneer in technical product information

Press release – Published: 12.03.2012 8:00:00

Thanks to the acquisition, Etteplan Oyj’s service offering in technical product information will be expanded by ground-breaking methods and technologies. With this transaction Etteplan becomes a major pioneer and key player in the industry in Europe, with more than 300 specialists in the field.

Tedopres International BV is an internationally recognized company and the leading developer of methods and software for Simplified Technical English (STE) and Simplified Technical Illustrations (STI). The company’s customers include Boeing, John Deere, Rolls-Royce, Electrolux, Sony and Philips.

STE was originally developed for the needs of the aerospace industry. Several international companies are increasingly adopting STE in their technical documentation.

STE’s writing rules and vocabulary produce a simple, easily understandable English text. The use of STE will improve the readability, usability and quality of technical documents, such as operating and maintenance instructions and other manuals. Other benefits include improved product safety for the user, thanks to the elimination of misunderstandings and ambiguities. The amount of text is significantly lower in materials produced by the STE principle, which can decrease translation and printing costs by up to 30 to 40 percent. More efficient production and distribution processes also enable quicker market entry for the product.

Another innovative solution in the company’s portfolio is an illustration method based on the Simplified Technical Illustrations principle. The method utilizes 3D images created during the customer’s product development and engineering processes and the information contained in them for the production of technical product information.

In addition to conventional media, Tedopres’s technologies make it possible to distribute technical product information for example via tablet computers and voice applications. Tedopres has supplied the Netherlands Ministry of Defense with an application that displays the virtual maintenance instructions of equipment from a computer to a head-mounted display. More information about Tedopres and the methods and technologies developed by the company is available via  this video link  or on the company’s websites  www.tedopres.com  and  www.simplifiedenglish.net .

“Etteplan’s customers will now enjoy even more wide-ranging services, ” says  Juha Näkki , President and CEO of Etteplan. “With STE, we can accomplish major cost savings for our customers thanks to content that is more concise and of a higher quality. Furthermore, Tedopres’s innovative technology for the distribution of product information in mobile terminal devices will bring the possibilities to utilize technical product information to a new level in our customer industries.”

“I’m confident that Tedopres has found a new owner with whom Tedopres can continue to grow and prosper. Together Etteplan and Tedopres have all the possibilities to lead the way in the development of innovative technical product information solutions”, states  André N. Verduijn , Founder and Director of Tedopres.
